Transforming Learning

This month, we’re banging on about transformational learning. It’s about shifting perspectives and capabilities. Rote learning relies on memorisation, but transformational learning enhances deep understanding and lasting change.

To transform as a learner, you need to engage in truckloads of critical thinking, problem-solving, and applying knowledge.

Learning to drive a car is a transformative learning experience. You make yourself aware of the road rules by memorising them, learning them by rote. It’s not until you’re behind the wheel and applying those rules that the transformation happens.

Of course, there’s a lot more going on. You must stay focused on other vehicles, pedestrians, traffic signs, staying in your lane, and maintaining a safe speed. As you sharpen those skills, your learning transforms.

As a parent, you can support your child in transforming their learning through active questioning, fostering curiosity, and providing opportunities for exploration. Encourage your children to engage with their environment through play and exploration.

Embrace mistakes as learning experiences.

Engage them in stimulating conversations. (Yep, turn off those screens.)

Our goal here is to create a lifelong learner—one who navigates our ever-changing world with confidence.
